Chelsea Football Club, one of the top teams in the English Premier League, has been thinking about signing a new goalkeeper, Mike Maignan, who currently plays for AC Milan in Italy.
However, Chelsea doesn’t want to pay the high price AC Milan is asking. So, for now, that deal is on hold.
Why Chelsea Isn’t Rushing
Chelsea already has three goalkeepers they trust:
- Robert Sánchez
- Djordje Petrovic
- Filip Jörgensen
They also signed a young Belgian goalkeeper named Mike Penders almost a year ago.
He’s considered one of the best teenage goalies in Europe and will join the team officially this summer.
So even though Mike Maignan is a top-quality player, the team feels pretty confident in their current goalkeepers.
Also, if Chelsea waits until January, they can sign Maignan for free (this is called a pre-contract agreement).
What About Jamie Gittens?
Chelsea is also in talks with Jamie Gittens, a young attacking player.
The club wants to offer him a long seven-year contract, but it’s unlikely they’ll complete the signing before the current transfer deadline.
