Big news from Stamford Bridge! Chelsea has made an official offer to sign French goalkeeper Mike Maignan from Italian club AC Milan.

Mike Maignan, who is 29 years old, became famous after helping his old team, Lille, win the French league in 2021.

That year, he kept 21 clean sheets—meaning he didn’t let the other team score in 21 matches!

After that amazing season, he joined AC Milan and immediately made a big impact.

In his first season, Milan won the Serie A title. He also helped them win the Italian Super Cup last season.

Now, Chelsea wants him as their new first-choice goalkeeper.

According to well-known transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, the London club has offered £12 million to try and bring him to England.

It’s not yet clear if Milan will accept that offer, but things are looking hopeful.

Why Mike Maignan?

Chelsea really likes Maignan’s experience and calm attitude under pressure.

He’s already won the “Goalkeeper of the Season” award three times and has played in many big matches.

Reports say that Maignan has agreed to personal terms with Chelsea. If the deal goes through, he will sign a six-year contract worth £7 million per year.

What About Chelsea’s Other Goalkeepers?

Chelsea’s new coach, Enzo Maresca, has a big decision to make. The club already has several goalkeepers:

  • Robert Sanchez
  • Filip Jorgensen (backup)
  • Mike Penders (a 19-year-old rising star)
  • Djordje Petrovic
  • Kepa Arrizabalaga, who was on loan at Bournemouth and is now close to joining Arsenal

So yes, it’s a crowded goalkeeping department! But Maignan would likely become the number one option.

At 6’3″ tall, and with loads of experience, he could lead Chelsea’s defense in both the Champions League and the upcoming Club World Cup.
