Pepijn Lijnders, who used to help coach Liverpool, is now going to work for Manchester City!

He will be one of the top assistant coaches on the team. He’s joining up with manager Pep Guardiola to help the team get even better.

Lijnders worked closely with Liverpool’s former head coach, Jürgen Klopp.

Together, they helped Liverpool win big trophies like the Champions League and the Premier League.

Now, Lijnders is bringing his experience to one of Liverpool’s biggest rivals.

Along with Lijnders, another coach named James French is also joining Manchester City.

He used to help Liverpool study other teams and now will focus on set-pieces (like free kicks and corners) for Man City.

Why Are They Joining Now?

Last season, Manchester City didn’t win any trophies, which was a surprise. So Coach Pep Guardiola decided to make some changes.

Some old coaches left, and now Lijnders and French are stepping in to help rebuild the team.

Lijnders is from the Netherlands and is 42 years old.

After leaving Liverpool in 2024, he tried to be the main coach of an Austrian team, Red Bull Salzburg.

But he left after just 29 games. Now, he’s ready for a new start with Man City.

French has worked in football for a long time too. He began working with the Welsh national team before joining Liverpool in 2012.

What Have They Achieved?

While at Liverpool, Lijnders helped the team win many titles, including:

  • The Premier League
  • The Champions League
  • The FA Cup
  • The FIFA Club World Cup
  • The UEFA Super Cup
  • Two League Cups
  • The Community Shield

That’s a lot of silverware!

What Does Manchester City Say?

City’s director of football, Hugo Viana, said that both Lijnders and French work really hard and believe in playing football the way Guardiola likes it—smart and exciting!
