Big football news! Kevin De Bruyne, one of the best midfielders in the world, has joined Italian club Napoli — and it didn’t cost them a penny!
After nearly 10 years of playing for Manchester City, De Bruyne’s time with the club has come to an end.
Manchester City decided not to offer him a new contract, so he was free to choose a new team. He called it a “business decision.”
Now 33 years old, De Bruyne signed a two-year deal with Napoli, the champions of Italy’s top league, Serie A.
There’s also a chance he could stay for a third year if both sides agree.
Before making the move official, De Bruyne went to Rome for a health check (called a “medical”) and met Napoli’s club president, Aurelio De Laurentiis.
Fans in Italy were thrilled to see him arrive!
Even though some clubs in the United States, like Inter Miami and Chicago Fire, were interested in him, De Bruyne said he still wants to play at the highest level.
That’s why he chose Napoli.
De Bruyne played his last match for Manchester City on the final day of the season, helping them beat Fulham 2–0.
Last season, he scored four goals and gave seven assists in the Premier League.
This move marks the start of an exciting summer transfer window, when teams sign new players and prepare for the next season.
