Mikel Merino has made an impressive transition into the striker’s role for Arsenal, stepping in after Kai Havertz was ruled out for the season.

Since his shift, Merino has scored four goals and provided an assist in his last six appearances, playing in the Premier League, Champions League, and UEFA Nations League.

His goal-scoring rate has significantly improved, almost doubling compared to his previous stints at Real Sociedad and Osasuna.

However, despite his recent form, Merino has found himself on a list he likely would rather avoid.

According to Opta data from the Manchester Evening News, Merino has been ranked as the third slowest player in the Premier League this season, reaching a top speed of just 29.8 km/h.

Only Craig Dawson of Wolves (29.6 km/h) and Manchester City’s Bernardo Silva (29.4 km/h) have slower speeds.

While Merino is far from being known for his pace, his ability to make intelligent runs and timely decisions on the pitch has allowed him to remain an essential part of Mikel Arteta’s tactical setup.

His positioning, ability to hold up play, and link with midfield have helped maintain balance in an injury-hit Arsenal side.
