Brighton & Hove Albion pulled off a stunning comeback to knock Chelsea out of the FA Cup, securing a 2-1 victory at the Amex Stadium and booking their place in the fifth round.
Chelsea struck first, thanks to a nightmare moment from Brighton goalkeeper Bart Verbruggen, who fumbled Cole Palmer’s cross into his own net just five minutes into the game. But the Seagulls didn’t back down.
Georginio Rutter leveled the score in the 12th minute, heading in Joel Veltman’s pinpoint cross.
Then, in the 57th minute, Rutter turned provider, setting up Kaoru Mitoma, who coolly chipped the ball over Chelsea’s Robert Sanchez for the winner.

Chelsea argued that Tariq Lamptey handled the ball in the build-up to Mitoma’s goal, but with no VAR in the fourth round, the decision stood.

The Blues pushed for an equalizer but failed to create any real danger, with Enzo Fernandez blasting a shot over the bar in frustration.
Chelsea’s Struggles Continue
Despite fielding a strong team, Enzo Maresca’s Chelsea side managed just one shot on target all game.
Their away struggles continue, as they’ve now gone five matches without a win on the road.
With their FA Cup hopes over, Chelsea must now shift focus to the Premier League, where they sit fourth, and the UEFA Conference League, their only realistic shot at silverware this season.
Brighton Bounce Back!
For Brighton, this win is a much-needed boost after a 7-0 thrashing by Nottingham Forest in their last outing.
Manager Fabian Hurzeler made just one change to the team, and the decision paid off as his side clinically took their chances, scoring from two of their six shots.
The Seagulls now turn their attention to the league, where they sit 10th, but with this momentum, they’ll be eyeing a strong finish to the season.
