Two of England’s biggest football clubs, Chelsea and Liverpool, are both interested in signing Hugo Ekitike, a 22-year-old striker who plays for Eintracht Frankfurt in Germany.
Ekitike had a fantastic season, scoring 22 goals, which has caught the attention of top teams in the Premier League.
Liverpool’s new manager, Arne Slot, had started talks to bring Ekitike to Anfield.
He was seen as a possible replacement for Darwin Núñez, who might be leaving the club soon.
But now, Chelsea has also entered the race.
Even though they are close to signing another young striker, Liam Delap, from Ipswich Town for £30 million, Chelsea still want Ekitike on their team.
Delap, who used to play for Manchester City, scored 12 goals for Ipswich this season.
This means Ekitike has more than one option if he decides to move to England.
A Rising Star
People in the football world see Ekitike as one of the top young talents in Europe.
Axel Hellmann, a board member at Frankfurt, said:
“I’d love to keep him at the club for ten more years, but we know that many Premier League clubs are interested. He’s smart, he listens, he learns, and he’s only 22.”
Although Manchester United were once interested in Delap, they seem to have dropped back, giving Chelsea the upper hand in that deal.
