Chelsea Football Club is about to sign 22-year-old striker Liam Delap from Ipswich Town after paying £30 million, which was written in his contract as a release clause.

This means that Chelsea can buy him immediately without needing permission from Ipswich.

Other top clubs like Manchester United, Everton, Newcastle, and Nottingham Forest were also interested in Delap.

Even Manchester City, where Delap used to play, had the option to bring him back.

However, Chelsea seems to be his first choice.

Delap moved to Ipswich from Manchester City last year in a deal worth up to £20 million.

Since Ipswich was relegated from the Premier League this season, Delap is now allowed to talk to other teams about joining them.

Ipswich’s manager, Kieran McKenna, said, “Liam is looking at his options for next year. We support him in doing that.”

Chelsea just won the UEFA Conference League and also qualified for next season’s Champions League.

That gives Delap a chance to play in Europe’s top club competition again.

He has only played once in the Champions League so far, back in 2022 with Manchester City.

Last season, Delap played in 32 Premier League games for Ipswich and scored 12 goals.

Now that he might leave, Ipswich is looking at Chelsea’s Marc Guiu as a possible replacement.
