Chelsea are on the verge of securing highly-rated young defender Mamadou Sarr from RC Strasbourg, according to multiple reports.

The 19-year-old French center-back, who stands at an impressive 6’4″ (194 cm), has been a standout performer in Ligue 1 and is seen as a promising talent for the future.

Sarr was part of France’s U19 squad that finished runners-up to Spain at the UEFA U19 European Championship last summer.

Since then, he has established himself as a key player for Strasbourg, starting 12 of their last 14 league matches, including the last seven consecutively.

Deal Details

Chelsea’s owners, BlueCo, originally acquired Sarr from Olympique Lyonnais for €10 million in the summer of 2024. Now, reports suggest that Chelsea will pay between €13-20 million to bring him to Stamford Bridge.

However, the transfer will likely see him remain at Strasbourg on loan for the rest of the season before officially joining Chelsea in the summer.

What Sarr Brings to Chelsea

Sarr’s towering presence and defensive awareness have drawn comparisons to some of the best young defenders in Europe.

His composure on the ball and ability to read the game make him a valuable long-term addition to Chelsea’s squad.

With the Blues looking to strengthen their backline for the future, Sarr’s arrival could provide much-needed depth, especially with uncertainties surrounding some of Chelsea’s current defensive options.
