Liverpool fans are urging the club to retire the number 20 jersey in honour of Diogo Jota, who tragically died in a car crash in Spain at the age of 28.

Jota and his brother, Andre Silva, 26, were killed early Thursday morning when their car crashed near Zamora.

Reports suggest a tyre burst may have caused the accident.

Liverpool said they were “devastated” by the news and called it an “unimaginable loss.

Now, fans believe no one else should wear that number again.

“He wore #20 when we won our 20th title. It’s only right to retire that number,” one supporter wrote on social media.

Another added:

“Football doesn’t matter right now. But as a sign of respect and love for everything Jota gave us, retiring the shirt would be the right thing.”

A third fan shared:

“He had the best month of his life—winning the league, winning with Portugal, and marrying his long-time partner. He’ll always be a legend. Retire the No. 20 for him.”

Others echoed the call, saying Jota gave fans unforgettable memories and should be honoured in a way the club has never done before.

Jota scored six goals in 26 appearances last season and helped Portugal win the Nations League just last month.
