Liverpool’s second-choice goalkeeper, Caoimhin Kelleher, has joined another Premier League team, Brentford, in a deal that could be worth up to £18 million.
What’s Happening?
Brentford and Liverpool have agreed on a transfer fee of £12.5 million, with the total possibly rising to £18 million based on performance bonuses.
Kelleher, who is from Ireland and is 26 years old, is expected to replace Brentford’s current main goalkeeper, Mark Flekken.

Flekken, who comes from the Netherlands, is set to join the German club Bayer Leverkusen for around £8 million.
Kelleher’s Career So Far
Kelleher has been with Liverpool for five years but mostly played as a backup to their main goalkeeper, Alisson Becker.
Even though he wasn’t the main player, Kelleher still got the chance to play in:
- 25 Premier League matches
- Over 40 cup games (like the FA Cup and League Cup)
During his time at Liverpool, he helped the team win:
- 2 Premier League titles
- 1 Champions League
- 1 FA Cup
- 2 League Cups
- 1 UEFA Super Cup
Who Is Taking Over at Liverpool?
Liverpool is also making changes. They have signed Giorgi Mamardashvili, a goalkeeper from Valencia in Spain.
He will join the team in July and compete with Alisson to be Liverpool’s number one goalkeeper.
More About Mark Flekken
Mark Flekken joined Brentford in 2023 from Freiburg, a team in Germany.
Before moving to England, he was known for being one of the best goalkeepers in Germany, keeping the most clean sheets (games without letting in goals) over two seasons.
