It’s official. Kevin De Bruyne has confirmed that his time at Manchester City will come to an end when his contract expires this summer.
In an emotional message on social media, the Belgian playmaker wrote: “These will be my final months as a Manchester City player.”
De Bruyne, who joined City from Wolfsburg in 2015 for £54.5 million, leaves behind a legendary legacy.
Over 10 seasons, he amassed 106 goals in 413 appearances, winning every major honour: six Premier League titles, two FA Cups, five Carabao Cups, and the Champions League.
He was also a key figure in City’s historic 2022/23 treble-winning team.
A True Premier League Legend
At 33, De Bruyne is still admired for his unmatched vision, creativity, and passing range.

Whether threading inch-perfect assists or scoring from distance, he defined a generation of Premier League midfielders.
Manager Pep Guardiola didn’t hide his emotions, calling it “a sad day” and describing De Bruyne as “one of the greatest this country has ever seen.”
City have announced plans to honour him with a proper farewell.
A statue outside the Etihad could very well be in the works — following in the footsteps of club legends like David Silva, Vincent Kompany, and Sergio Agüero.
What’s Next for KDB?
Though De Bruyne hasn’t announced his next move, speculation is rife. Saudi Arabian clubs and MLS sides are reportedly circling.
With the Club World Cup coming up this summer in the U.S., there’s uncertainty over whether he’ll extend his deal briefly to bow out on the global stage.
Sky Sports’ Ben Ransom noted:
“He doesn’t say he’s retiring, he talks about this being an incredible chapter of success here in England. But you do feel he’s probably got one last throw of the dice, which you imagine would still be relatively lucrative in either Saudi Arabia or the MLS, because of the name and what he’s achieved on a global scale.”

Recurring injuries have limited his appearances this season. De Bruyne has struggled for rhythm, often frustrated by his own physical limitations.
Still, when fit, he remains one of the most influential players in the game.
Tributes Pour In
Football fans across the divide showed their respect:
- @AshEddon (Man Utd fan): “Pains me to say it, but arguably the greatest midfielder in Premier League history. Should’ve won a Ballon d’Or.”
- @LFCDave (Liverpool fan): “Outside of Steven Gerrard, the best central midfielder to play in the Premier League. Irreplaceable.”
- @Joe: “We haven’t seen a more complete midfielder. His assist record is unreal.”
- @Ebz: “Retire the #17 shirt. No one should wear it again at City.”
- @Simon: “£54m for 10 years of greatness? Bargain of the century.”
A Legacy That Can’t Be Replaced
In his farewell note, De Bruyne said:
“Nothing about this is easy to write, but as football players, we all know this day eventually comes. That day is here – and you deserve to hear it from me first.”
This city. This club. These people… gave me everything. I had no choice but to give everything back! And guess what – we won everything.”
