Liverpool are making major moves in the summer transfer market, and one name at the top of their wishlist is Jeremie Frimpong — Bayer Leverkusen’s flying full-back who could be available for a bargain.
Following Trent Alexander-Arnold’s imminent move to Real Madrid, Liverpool are keen to fill the void at right-back, and Frimpong appears to be the standout candidate.
According to sources close to the club, the 24-year-old Dutch international is available for just £29.7 million (€35 million) — thanks to a release clause in his contract.
Frimpong has been on Arne Slot’s radar, and his signing would align perfectly with Liverpool’s new era under the Dutch boss.

With Slot having just led the Reds to a record-equalling 20th league title, the club is backing him with a solid transfer budget to strengthen across the pitch.
Frimpong’s Fit at Liverpool
Frimpong is no stranger to English football.
A product of Manchester City’s academy, he rose to prominence at Celtic before making the leap to the Bundesliga in 2021.

Under Xabi Alonso’s guidance at Bayer Leverkusen, he has flourished — winning both the Bundesliga and the DFB-Pokal this season.
Known for his explosive pace, agility, and attacking flair, Frimpong has racked up an impressive 29 goals and 44 assists in 189 appearances for Leverkusen — phenomenal numbers for a defender.
His versatility has seen him deployed not only as a right-back but also as a winger for the Netherlands.
However, some critics point out that while Frimpong excels going forward, he may lack the defensive solidity fans have been demanding in Alexander-Arnold’s replacement.
His recovery runs are aided by his speed, but he’s yet to fully shake off concerns about his defensive consistency — a familiar theme during Trent’s Anfield career as well.
Slot’s Transfer Plans: More Than Just a Right-Back
While the right-back position is a clear priority, Liverpool’s summer rebuild won’t stop there.
The club is also eyeing upgrades at left-back, centre-back, and striker.
Valencia goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili is expected to arrive, while Bournemouth duo Milos Kerkez and Dean Huijsen are being monitored for defensive depth.
Slot’s vision is clear: build a team that can compete not just in England, but across Europe.
The fact that Frimpong already has close ties with Liverpool players — including Virgil van Dijk, Cody Gakpo, and Ryan Gravenberch — could help smooth any transition.
In a recent Netherlands camp, Frimpong even greeted Gravenberch with a cheerful “Alright, la?” in a Scouse accent, a moment that only intensified speculation about a move to Merseyside.
Frimpong’s Future: A Win for Liverpool?
With a relatively modest release clause and his profile rising fast, Frimpong could prove to be one of the steals of the summer.
Liverpool would likely offer him a significant wage boost from his current £65,000-per-week contract — plus, he brings commercial value through his New Balance sponsorship worth a reported £20 million.
There’s no doubt Frimpong would inject energy and creativity into Liverpool’s right flank.
