Prior to his penalty miss, Zirkzee had scored the winning penalty against Arsenal at the Emirates.

Joshua Zirkzee was left devastated as Manchester United crashed out of the FA Cup following a dramatic penalty shootout defeat against Fulham.
The Dutch striker, who had previously been United’s hero in their third-round victory over Arsenal, couldn’t replicate his success from the spot.
His crucial penalty was saved by Bernd Leno, sealing the Red Devils’ fate and sending Fulham into the next round.
An Emotional End
As the final whistle blew, Zirkzee was visibly distraught on the pitch. His teammates, along with Fulham’s Alex Iwobi, consoled him after the agonizing moment.
United’s manager, Ruben Amorim, also offered support as the young forward struggled to hold back tears.
How the Match Unfolded
The game had started in Fulham’s favor, with Calvin Bassey heading in an early goal from an Andreas Pereira corner—eerily similar to a goal they scored at Old Trafford in the 2023 FA Cup.
However, Bruno Fernandes ensured extra time by firing in a low shot past Leno.
Neither side managed to find a breakthrough in extra time, leading to a tense penalty shootout.
Victor Lindelöf was the first to miss for United, and Zirkzee’s failure to convert his attempt ultimately sealed their exit.
From Hero to Heartbreak
Just weeks ago, Zirkzee had scored the winning penalty against Arsenal at the Emirates.
But on this occasion, the former Bologna striker found himself on the opposite end of fortune as Leno guessed correctly to deny him.
