Marcus Rashford, one of Manchester United’s biggest names, has told the club he wants to leave — and he’s not alone.
According to reports, Rashford is one of five players who have officially asked to leave Old Trafford this summer.
The others are Alejandro Garnacho, Jadon Sancho, Antony, and Tyrell Malacia.
United have given all five players extra time off and delayed their return to pre-season training.
However, they are still welcome to return to Carrington if no moves materialize.
Why Do They Want to Leave?
Rashford
Rashford, 27, was frozen out of the squad by manager Ruben Amorim in December and spent the second half of last season on loan at Aston Villa.
Despite scoring four goals and assisting six times in 17 appearances, Villa didn’t trigger the £40m permanent option.
United have now handed his iconic No. 10 shirt to new signing Matheus Cunha, making Rashford’s exit seem all but certain.
Back in February, Amorim made it clear there was a clash of ideas:
“I couldn’t get Marcus to play and train the way I wanted.”
Rashford, who has 138 goals in 426 games for United, has already expressed interest in a move to Barcelona, even naming teenage star Lamine Yamal as someone he’d like to play alongside.
Garnacho
Garnacho, 21, was left out of United’s final Premier League squad of last season.
Amorim reportedly told him he’d be allowed to leave this summer — and now, that plan is in motion.
Antony
The Brazilian winger spent last season on loan at Real Betis in Spain.
His time at Old Trafford has been turbulent, and he is now seeking a permanent move away.
Jadon Sancho
Sancho returned to United after Chelsea declined to make his loan permanent, paying a £5m penalty.
With no place in Amorim’s plans, he too is looking for a fresh start.
Tyrell Malacia
The Dutch defender spent the second half of last season on loan at PSV Eindhoven.
Injuries and inconsistency have held him back, and he is expected to move on.
Cunha Takes the No. 10 Shirt
With Rashford’s future up in the air, Manchester United have confirmed that Matheus Cunha — the £62.5m signing from Wolves — will wear the No. 10 jersey next season.
The 25-year-old Brazilian forward scored 31 goals in 76 games for Wolves and has signed a five-year deal with the option of an extra year.
United reportedly informed Rashford of the decision before making it public.
As of now, no bids have been made for him — but the club values him at around £40m.
What’s Next for United?
Manchester United are scheduled to face Leeds United in Stockholm on 19 July for their first pre-season game.
They will then fly to the USA for the Premier League Summer Series.
But with five senior players planning exits and key shirt numbers already reassigned, manager Ruben Amorim clearly has big changes in mind for the squad.
Final Thoughts
Rashford’s exit would mark the end of a two-decade journey with Manchester United — from academy prodigy to first-team star.
