Mohamed Salah has had an amazing season, but he’s still waiting to break a big Premier League record.
The Liverpool star played his 400th game for the club on Monday, but it didn’t go as planned.
Salah missed an easy chance to score during their loss to Brighton. He looked surprised and even smiled a little afterward—he couldn’t believe he missed.
Back in March, Salah was on fire. He had 27 goals and 17 assists in just 29 matches.
That’s 44 goal contributions—only three away from the Premier League record of 47. That record is held by legends Alan Shearer and Andrew Cole.
He was also close to beating the record for most assists in a season (20), which is shared by Thierry Henry and Kevin De Bruyne.
But in his last eight games, Salah has only gotten one goal and one assist.
Now, he’s still one goal contribution away from tying the record and needs two more assists to set a new one.
After Monday’s game, Liverpool’s coach Arne Slot said, “When I saw the ball going to Mo, I thought it was going to be a goal. That’s what he usually does. He’s been amazing all season. Sometimes he doesn’t score for a game or two, but he always bounces back.”
Salah is still feeling confident. After helping Liverpool win the Premier League title in April, he said, “I hope I can break the record soon. It keeps me motivated to work hard.”
With one game left—against Crystal Palace at Anfield—many still believe he can do it.
More Records in Sight
Salah is also likely to win this year’s Premier League Golden Boot. He has 28 goals, five more than Newcastle’s Alexander Isak.
Unless something very surprising happens, Salah will win the Golden Boot for the fourth time, tying Thierry Henry’s record.
He might also win the European Golden Shoe, which goes to the top league scorer in Europe.
Viktor Gyokeres from Sporting CP currently leads with 39 goals. But since Portugal’s season is over, Gyokeres can’t add any more.

Salah would need two goals in his final game to pass him. Another challenger is Real Madrid’s Kylian Mbappe, who has 29 goals with one game left.
The Golden Shoe doesn’t just count goals.
It uses a points system based on how tough the league is. This helps players in stronger leagues like England, Spain, and Germany.
Salah’s Amazing Numbers
Since joining Liverpool in 2017, Salah has 244 goals and 110 assists in 400 games. That’s 354 goal contributions—an incredible number.
He has already beaten the record for goal contributions in a 38-game season. His 44 beat the 44 from both Erling Haaland and Thierry Henry in past years.
In Europe’s top five leagues, only a few players have ever hit 50 goal contributions in a season. Those players include Messi, Ronaldo, Suarez, and Ibrahimovic.
Messi holds the highest total: 66 goal contributions in one season—50 goals and 16 assists—in 2011-12.
