Liverpool star Trent Alexander-Arnold has been told he could struggle at Real Madrid, with former Barcelona midfielder Emmanuel Petit warning that the Spanish giants “will kill him” if his defensive weaknesses persist.
The 25-year-old right-back has been heavily linked with a move to Madrid, with reports suggesting he has a verbal agreement in place.
However, Petit believes Alexander-Arnold’s playing style may not fit the demands of the LaLiga club.
“Not a Proper Defender”
Speaking to Casino Utan Spelpaus, Petit questioned Alexander-Arnold’s defensive capabilities, especially after a difficult game against Manchester United.
For me, he’s not a right-back. He’s not a proper defender, but he’s so good with the ball. If he goes to Madrid, they don’t forgive anything. If Trent does what he does defensively there, they will kill him.
Petit recalled his own experience at Barcelona, where past achievements counted for little. He emphasized that Madrid’s expectations are ruthless, and Alexander-Arnold would need to adapt quickly.
A Risky Move?
Alexander-Arnold has been a key figure for Liverpool, winning the Premier League and Champions League under Jürgen Klopp.
