Trent Alexander-Arnold may leave Liverpool as a free agent this summer. The right-back’s contract expires at the end of the season.
He has reportedly held talks with Spanish giants Real Madrid.
Despite the uncertainty, captain Virgil van Dijk believes Alexander-Arnold will be remembered positively by the club.

His contract runs out at the end of the season, and reports suggest that Real Madrid have expressed serious interest in luring him to Spain.
While fans are still debating whether Alexander-Arnold’s goal celebration—ripping off his shirt and triumphantly facing the away fans—was a sign of farewell, Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk chose to focus on the legacy the local lad has built over the years.
“Since I joined the club, he has been a fantastic player,” said Van Dijk.
“There are a lot of good things that he’ll always be remembered for if he decides to leave. But right now, he’s still a Liverpool player and remains vital to our team.”
Van Dijk, along with Mohamed Salah, recently signed a new two-year contract, putting to rest any speculation about his future.
But for Alexander-Arnold, no such clarity has emerged, despite there being just five games left in Liverpool’s season.
Uncertainty Within the Ranks
Even within the Liverpool squad, no one seems to know what Trent plans to do next.
“At this point, we don’t know as a group what’s going to happen,” Van Dijk admitted. “He’s already under a lot of pressure. There’s no point in adding more.”
Yet while the future remains murky for Alexander-Arnold, Liverpool’s immediate objective is crystal clear—secure their 20th league title.
Title Hopes Hinge on Arsenal
Liverpool’s path to the Premier League crown could become clearer on Wednesday.
If Arsenal fails to beat Crystal Palace, Liverpool will be crowned champions.
If not, they can clinch it themselves on Sunday against Tottenham Hotspur at Anfield.
“It doesn’t matter when it happens. I just want us to be champions,” Van Dijk said passionately. “To lift the trophy in front of our home fans, at a red Anfield, would be unforgettable.”
