Liverpool’s Potential Round of 16 Opponents
Liverpool’s impressive form in the inaugural Champions League league phase ensured they finished at the top of the table, earning automatic qualification for the round of 16.
Seven consecutive victories in the group stage meant the Reds avoided the knockout play-offs, allowing them to shift their focus to the next round.
As the draw approaches, Liverpool could be paired with one of four clubs: Paris Saint-Germain, Benfica, Monaco, or Brest.
With PSG and Benfica finishing 15th and 16th, they will first compete against Monaco (17th) and Brest (18th) in the knockout play-offs.
The winners of these matchups will move on to the round of 16, where Liverpool could be waiting.
While all four teams present different challenges, PSG stands out as the team to avoid.
Despite a slow start in the league phase, Luis Enrique’s squad found form towards the end and are currently unbeaten since their 1-0 loss to Bayern Munich in November.
If they navigate the play-offs successfully, they could be one of the toughest opponents Liverpool might face.
When Will Liverpool Know Their Opponent?
The UEFA Champions League knockout phase play-off draw is scheduled for Friday, January 31, 2025, at 12:00 CET.
The first-leg matches are set for February 11/12, 2025, and the second-leg matches will follow on February 18/19, 2025.
By the end of the play-offs, Liverpool’s list of potential opponents will be reduced to just two teams.
The round of 16 draw is set for 21 February 2025, where Liverpool and Barcelona (who finished second in the league phase) will find out who they will face.

Liverpool’s quest for European glory resumes in March, with the first legs of the round of 16 set for 4/5 March and the return fixtures on 11/12 March.
