In the 55th minute, Declan Rice scored a beautiful goal from outside the penalty box.
He received a pass from Martin Ødegaard and kicked the ball perfectly into the net.
That was the only goal of the match—and it was enough for Arsenal to win!
A Big Moment for Arsenal
This victory was especially important because Arsenal had not won a home game since April 1st.
The team had been struggling, but this win helped them finish strong in front of their home fans.
Because of this win, Arsenal now has 71 points in the Premier League standings.
Only Manchester City, currently with 65 points and two games left, can catch up.
But Arsenal’s goal difference (how many more goals they’ve scored than allowed) is much better, so they’re likely to finish in second place—just behind Liverpool.
Newcastle Played Well but Missed Their Star
Newcastle United started the game really strong and had five shots on target in just 17 minutes!
But after that, they couldn’t get another good chance. Their best goal-scorer, Alexander Isak, couldn’t play due to an injury, which made things tougher for them.
Even though they lost, Newcastle still has a good chance of finishing in the top five, which could get them into the Champions League too.
They just need to win their final match against Everton.
Celebrating and Looking Ahead
After the final whistle, the Arsenal players stayed on the field to thank their fans.
Even though the team didn’t win a major trophy this season, fans were happy to see them qualify for the Champions League.
Captain Ødegaard told the crowd, “We know we haven’t been good enough in the league overall—but we’re happy to end on a high note.”
