Arsenal have pulled off a smart transfer move by swooping in to sign 17-year-old striker Will Wright from Salford City – beating Liverpool and several other clubs to the punch.
Who is Will Wright?
Will Wright is a tall (6ft 3in), powerful striker who made headlines last season by scoring over 50 goals across all levels for Salford City.
He also made his first few senior appearances and has been in red-hot form during pre-season, scoring four goals in friendly matches already.

It’s no surprise that top clubs were chasing him, including:
- Liverpool
- Manchester City
- Brentford
- Leicester City
- Burnley
But in the end, it’s Arsenal who have stepped in and taken the lead.
How Arsenal Hijacked the Deal
Liverpool were believed to be ahead in the race to sign Wright, having already made an offer to Salford.

But according to reports, Arsenal submitted a bigger bid — around £250,000 plus add-ons, while Liverpool only offered £100,000.
That proved to be the difference.
Salford have reportedly accepted Arsenal’s bid, and the young forward is now expected to join Mikel Arteta’s side.
Praise from Salford’s Boss
Salford manager Karl Robinson has openly praised Wright’s talent.
After a friendly match where Wright scored twice, Robinson said the youngster was a key part of his team and clearly a big talent.
But even he may now have to accept that Wright is moving on to bigger things.l
Arsenal’s Transfer Pattern
Interestingly, this isn’t the first time Arsenal have hijacked a Liverpool move.
Just recently, they signed Martin Zubimendi in a £51 million transfer — another deal where they beat the Reds to the punch.
Wright may be a much cheaper signing, but the principle is the same: get in fast, and get your man.
Final Thoughts
Arsenal’s move shows they’re not just focusing on big-name stars — they’re also planning for the future by picking up young, hungry talent like Will Wright.
