Personal terms? Already sorted. The deal is basically done — all that’s left is the medical.
Why Arsenal Need Him
For a long time now, Arsenal have been crying out for a proper striker.
With Eddie Nketiah gone, Gabriel Jesus sidelined for chunks of last season, and Kai Havertz picking up an injury just as he was hitting form, Arteta had limited options up front.
And if the Gunners want to finally end that long wait for the Premier League title, they need someone who knows how to score goals — regularly.
Enter Viktor Gyökeres. The Swedish forward has been tearing it up for Sporting, and now he’s ready for the big stage in England.
Behind-the-Scenes Drama
This transfer wasn’t exactly straightforward. Gyökeres thought he had a handshake agreement with Sporting’s ex-director to leave for a set fee.
But after that director left for Manchester City, the new club president backed out of the arrangement.
Gyökeres wasn’t happy — so much so that he skipped pre-season training to push for the move.
In the end, Sporting gave in, and Arsenal swooped in quickly to get it done.
Even the player’s agents chipped in — reportedly reducing their commission just to help the transfer go through.
What Arsenal Are Getting
Gyökeres isn’t just any striker. He’s powerful, quick, and deadly in front of goal.
He doesn’t just hang around the box — he works hard, presses high, and brings others into play.
It’s exactly the kind of profile Arteta has been looking for.
If he clicks with the rest of the team, Arsenal could finally have the kind of No. 9 that makes the difference in tight matches.
