Chelsea have increased their valuation of Trevoh Chalobah after recalling the defender from his loan spell at Crystal Palace.

The 25-year-old returned to Stamford Bridge earlier this week, cutting short his impressive stint at Selhurst Park.

Despite initially being left out of the first team, new manager Enzo Maresca has welcomed Chalobah’s return, citing injury setbacks to Wesley Fofana and Benoit Badiashile.

Maresca explained that financial constraints were the primary reason for Chalobah’s loan move, leading fans to hope that he might now have a long-term future at the club.

However, reports suggest that Chelsea still intend to sell him in the summer.

Chelsea Demand £40m for Chalobah

According to The Sun, Chelsea have set a £40 million price tag on Chalobah—nearly double what they were asking last summer.

While it remains unclear if the club is actively looking to offload him, any offer in that range would likely see him depart.

Crystal Palace had initially signed Chalobah on loan after no club matched Chelsea’s previous asking price. His performances for the Eagles were impressive, making them keen on a permanent deal.

However, Palace aren’t willing to meet the new £40m price, which would smash their transfer record—previously set by Christian Benteke’s £27m move from Liverpool in 2017.

Additionally, Chalobah’s reported £7m-a-year salary would make him Palace’s highest earner, making a deal financially challenging.

Palace Thriving Despite Chalobah’s Exit

Since Chalobah’s unexpected departure, Palace have secured back-to-back 2-0 wins against Leicester and West Ham, showing no signs of struggle without him.

Discussing the situation, Palace manager Oliver Glasner said:

Trevoh had a great time with us. When you make a loan deal, it’s usually a win-win for everyone, but now Chelsea are the biggest winners because they get a player back in better shape than when he arrived.

I want to say thanks to Trevoh for his professionalism. He is a great player and an even better human. We had a great time together, and I wish him all the best at Chelsea.

What’s Next for Chalobah?

With his future still uncertain, Chalobah could make his first Chelsea appearance of the season on Monday night when they take on Wolves.
