Chelsea have finalized an £18.5m agreement to sign promising Sporting CP midfielder Dario Essugo, currently on loan at Las Palmas.

The 20-year-old is set to sign a seven-year contract, with an option for an additional year, pending a medical and personal terms agreement.

Essugo, a Portugal Under-21 international, is expected to join the squad in June, providing depth in the defensive midfield role alongside Moises Caicedo.

His impressive development this season has caught the attention of Chelsea scouts, with club insiders confident in his potential.

The club hopes to have him available for the newly expanded Club World Cup in the United States this summer.

Essugo has accumulated 25 appearances for Sporting and featured 17 times for Las Palmas in La Liga this season.

His signing follows Chelsea’s recent £40m acquisition of 17-year-old winger Geovany Quenda from Sporting, as the Blues continue their strategy of investing in young talent for the future.
