Liverpool players and staff gathered in Gondomar, Portugal, on Saturday to attend the funeral of Diogo Jota and his younger brother, André Silva, following their tragic deaths in a car crash in Spain on Thursday.
Virgil van Dijk and Andy Robertson were seen carrying floral tributes marked ‘20’ and ‘30’—the respective squad numbers of Jota and André.
The service, held at Igreja Matriz de Gondomar, drew current and former Reds, club officials, and members of the Portugal national team.
Jordan Henderson, James Milner, Thiago, Fabinho, and Caoimhin Kelleher were among those who attended.
Former Liverpool coaches Pepijn Lijnders and Vitor Matos also paid their respects, alongside Portugal stars Ruben Neves and Joao Cancelo—Neves acted as a pallbearer.

The atmosphere was heavy with sorrow, but also unity.

Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson, unable to attend from Brazil, shared an emotional message:
“I knew I’d be well represented by my club mates.”
The funeral, held under heavy emotion, lasted an hour.
Outside Anfield, a book of remembrance has been opened, and hundreds of fans have laid flowers and tributes.
Memorials have also appeared at Jota’s former clubs, including Wolves, Porto, and Pacos de Ferreira, as the football world continues to mourn the loss of a beloved teammate, son, brother, and friend.
