Liverpool Football Club has finally signed their most-wanted player!

His name is Florian Wirtz, and he’s from Germany.

The club paid £116 million to bring him from Bayer Leverkusen. This is the most expensive transfer in Liverpool’s history.

Wirtz, who is 22 years old, signed a 5-year contract and will stay with the team until at least 2030.

Wirtz Wants to Win Everything

After signing, Wirtz said,

I would like to win everything every year. First of all, we have to do our work.

“Last season they won the Premier League so my goal is for sure to win it again and also to go further in the Champions League. I’m really ambitious.

“I’m really excited to have a new adventure in front of me. This was also a big point of my thoughts: that I want to have something completely new, to go out of the Bundesliga and to join the Premier League.

He also said he talked to other players and they told him that the Premier League would be perfect for him.

“I will see how I can perform there. I hope I can do my best.”

I spoke also with some players who played there and they told me that it’s perfect for me and every pitch is perfect, you can enjoy every game. I’m really looking forward to playing my first game.”

What Wirtz Brings to Liverpool

Wirtz started playing in Germany’s top league when he was 17 years old.

He scored 57 goals in 197 games and gave 44 assists. That’s a great record!

He is known as a fast and smart midfielder, especially good at creating chances and dribbling past defenders.

Experts say he’s already like a complete player and has a lot of talent.

He also became the youngest player to play 50 Bundesliga games at just 18 years and 7 months.

Even though he’s young, people in Germany say he acts like a leader on the field.

How Will He Fit Into the Team?

Liverpool may use Wirtz as a central attacking midfielder (number 10), but this could mean other players like Dominik Szoboszlai or Alexis Mac Allister might play less.

He might also play on the wing, but Mohamed Salah already plays on the right, and Luis Díaz and Cody Gakpo play on the left.

Another option is for Wirtz to play as a “false nine” — a striker who comes back to help pass the ball and create space.

This is something Liverpool used to do with Roberto Firmino.

Right now, Diogo Jota and Darwin Núñez are not scoring a lot, so Wirtz could help in that area too.

Why Did Liverpool Spend So Much?

Wirtz’s deal is half of the world’s biggest transfer, when Neymar went to PSG for £200 million in 2017.

Last season, Liverpool didn’t buy many new players, but they still won the Premier League.

Now, they want to build an even better team.

The club’s new sporting director, Richard Hughes, is leading the charge to sign top players this summer.

Liverpool are also in talks to sign Milos Kerkez, a defender from Bournemouth, for £40 million.

Even after buying Wirtz, Liverpool may still buy more players, including a new center-back and striker.
