After eight glittering years at Manchester City, Kyle Walker’s next chapter is taking an unexpected turn — with newly promoted Burnley.
The 35-year-old defender, once considered among the best right-backs in world football, has penned a two-year deal with the Clarets.
The move ends a trophy-laden spell with the Cityzens, where Walker lifted six Premier League titles, two FA Cups, and a historic treble in 2023.
But his final months at the Etihad were far from ideal.
Falling out of favour under Pep Guardiola last December, Walker was loaned to AC Milan — a spell that didn’t result in a permanent move.
With his future at City clearly over, he’s opted for a fresh start at Turf Moor under manager Scott Parker.
“What a fall from grace!” – Fans react
The transfer has stirred mixed emotions across social media, where fans expressed both disbelief and nostalgia:
“What a fall from grace! I hope it works well for him at the Clarets,” wrote one fan.
“Kyle Walker is the greatest Premier League right-back of all time. Don’t let one tough year change your mind,” another posted.
Others simply questioned how such a rapid decline could happen:
“Man City to Milan to Burnley in 7 months is brazy,” one user summarized.
Big wage, big legacy, big decision
Walker’s exit also helps City cut costs.
As one of the club’s top earners, his departure reportedly frees up around £10 million in wages — while also closing a chapter for a player who made over 300 appearances since joining from Spurs in 2017 for £45m.
Despite his drop down the league ladder, Walker’s CV remains elite.
And for Burnley, his experience could prove invaluable in their Premier League return.
Debut date set
The England international is likely to make his Burnley debut on August 16, when they face his former side Tottenham Hotspur on the opening weekend of the 2025/26 Premier League season.
