Florian Wirtz, a talented 22-year-old football player from Germany, has decided not to join Manchester City.
Instead, he’s moving closer to joining Liverpool.
The reason? He didn’t get one important promise from City’s famous manager, Pep Guardiola.
What Happened with Manchester City?
Wirtz, who plays for Bayer Leverkusen, has had an amazing season. He helped his team win the German league and scored 11 goals.
Big clubs like Bayern Munich, Manchester City, and Liverpool were all interested in signing him.
At first, Manchester City looked like a strong option.
But during talks, Guardiola said he might not stay at the club until 2027.
He couldn’t promise Wirtz that he would still be the manager in the future. This made Wirtz worry about his role in the team. So, he said no to City.
Why Liverpool?
After rejecting Manchester City, Wirtz told Leverkusen that he only wanted to join Liverpool.
Reports say that Liverpool made an offer of over €100 million, and talks between the two clubs are ongoing.
Football expert Fabrizio Romano said, “Wirtz already told Bayer that he only wants Liverpool.”
Liverpool is also trying to sign other players like Milos Kerkez from Bournemouth and Jeremie Frimpong, who plays with Wirtz at Leverkusen.
Neymar’s Reaction
After a friendly match in Brazil, reporters asked Neymar about Wirtz. Neymar surprisingly said he didn’t know who Wirtz was.
But when asked about Jamal Musiala, another young German star, Neymar had only good things to say.
Some fans thought Neymar was being disrespectful, while others just laughed it off.
