Phil Foden inspired Manchester City to a comfortable 2-0 win over Wydad Casablanca in their FIFA Club World Cup opener at Lincoln Financial Field.
The England midfielder scored the fastest goal of the tournament so far—netting inside two minutes—before assisting Jeremy Doku’s close-range finish shortly before half-time.
With the win, Pep Guardiola’s side joined fellow European giants PSG, Bayern Munich, and Chelsea in starting their campaign with victory.
Despite patches of empty seats, thousands of City fans were in full voice in Philadelphia, watching Foden orchestrate much of City’s attacking play.

Rodri made his long-awaited return from injury in the second half, while Erling Haaland came off the bench to a rousing reception but couldn’t find the net.
Wydad’s debutant Nordin Amrabat showed glimpses of intent, but the Moroccan side failed to test Ederson significantly.
Rico Lewis was sent off late on after a VAR check for a high boot on Samuel Obeng, ruling him out of City’s next game.

New signings Rayan Cherki and Tijjani Reijnders were handed debuts by Guardiola.
Cherki impressed with flair in attack, while Reijnders was dynamic in midfield.
Fellow summer recruit Rayan Ait-Nouri was unused, with youngster Nico O’Reilly getting the nod.

His composed early strike ended a 20-game scoring drought for club and country.
